Hello!
Woke this morning to a lovely blue sky over Knoxville; yesterday’s storm definitely a thing of the past, at least where we’re staying. Up around 6:30, down for breakfast and then on the road about 7:30 a.m. We drove toward Asheville NC, through some truly beautiful country – very, very green and lovely mountains. We did pick up a fair amount of fog along the way, although no rain and nothing that made driving too difficult. We stopped for lunch in West Columbia, SC and reached Georgia and the hotel – Best Western, Richmond Hill, about 3 p.m.
Got everything into the room, #318, and then called Linda Kennedy who very kindly invited us over to hang out with her family and have dinner. Their home is about 15 minutes from the hotel, down some very narrow and winding roads. In fact, it is, I believe, the last house in their development, rather set back in among beautiful, huge trees and backing right on to beautiful wetlands area, bordering the Ogeechee River. It was WONDERFUL to see Linda, whom I last saw at the Rome airport last November, and John, who we haven’t seen in several years, as well as their two boys, Kevin and Jeff and meet Jeff’s girlfriend, Rachel. Also got to meet Georgia, their very cute and incredibly affectionate dog!
We had a really lovely and relaxing afternoon, watching a combination of golf, tennis and football – so many choices these days and drinking some wine. Linda made a “shrimp boil” – sautéed shrimp then baked in the oven with great French bread and veggies. We all sat around the kitchen table making a complete mess of things, and having a great meal and a great time! It is SO nice to see everybody and to finally see Linda and John’s beautiful Georgia home!
Finally headed back to the hotel around 9, as I’d had an up-and-down night last night, lots of driving today, so early to bed! Tomorrow exploring the area with Linda!
Lots of love,
m
